Launch of WGL Website & Forensic Service Guideline
Wildlife Genetics Laboratory's new website and Forensic Service Guide book will will serve as an accessible platform to disseminate information on the lab’s research, conservation initiatives, and forensic services for government agencies and other stakeholders.


Hope for Northeast Hoolock Gibbons
Aaranyak, a leading biodiversity conservation organization, is collaborating on a pioneering project to assess the population, genetics, and threats to western hoolock gibbons in Northeast India. Through field surveys and DNA studies, the Wildlife Genetics Laboratory of Aaranyak aims to provide critical data to guide conservation strategies and protect this endangered primate from extinction. Tech for Gibbon Conservation

It is worth mentioning that Wildlife Genetics Laboratory of Aaranyak is employing various molecular technology, such as DNA tools to identify major source populations of gibbons in northeast India and Enzyme immunoassay tool


Govt Notifies WGL under BNSS 2023
The first-of-its-kind recognition, under Section 329(4) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, will allow the WGL and its director, Udayan Borthakur, to assist law-enforcement agencies in gathering DNA-based forensic evidence to tackle wildlife offences.
