In Kaziranga National Park, researchers are building a DNA database from rhino dung to monitor populations and even catch poachers! Once on the brink of extinction with only about a dozen left in 1908, the greater one-horned rhinoceros has made an incredible comeback—today, an estimated 2,613 roam Kaziranga’s swampy landscapes. Science is revolutionizing the future of wildlife conservation. This short film highlights the 8-day Hands-on Training on the Applications of DNA Technology in Wildlife Genetics & Forensics, organised by Wildlife Genetics Laboratory (WGL), Aaranyak during 22-29 April 2026. The programme provided participants from across India an opportunity to get hands-on experience on wildlife genetics, conservation genomics and wildlife forensic investigations through expert lectures and intensive laboratory sessions. The film shows how state-of-the-art DNA technologies are helping conservation professionals solve wildlife crimes, track biodiversity and enhance evidence-based wildlife conservation.
