A glimpse at Aaranyak's Wildlife Genetics Laboratory.jpg

Facilities

The laboratory is equipped to conduct a variety of research studies, including  population genetic study on species utilizing DNA technology, physiological stress monitoring using Enzyme Immunoassay, and more. In order to get genetic samples, the lab mostly employs non-invasive sampling methods that do not involve capturing or handling live animals.   Forensic DNA investigations frequently involve non-invasive sample analysis and the use of utmost caution to prevent contamination from other DNA sources. To prevent contamination from extraneous sources, the laboratory has properly separated its facilities physically.

01

Biological Sample Processing and Storage

In this section, the laboratory has facility for initial processing of various types of biological samples, in order to prepare them for cataloging, storage and downstream analyses. This section also has facility for photo and video documentation of sensitive processes, including handling of forensic cases.

02

DNA Extraction

A particular section of the laboratory is dedicated to extraction of DNA from non-invasive samples such as dung, hair, feather etc., as well as trace amount of samples from forensic cases. This section is physically separate from other parts of the laboratory that also handles high-quality DNA sources, such as blood, tissue, PCR products etc., in order to ensure avoiding cross-contamination.
