Wildlife Genetics Laboratory (WGL) of Aaranyak, a Govt. of Assam Notified Laboratory for wildlife genetics & forensics under Section 329 (4) of the BNSS, 2023, is organizing an 8-days training titled “Hands-on Training on Applications of DNA Technology in Wildlife Genetics and Forensics”, from April 22 to 29, 2026. 

 

WGL has an outstanding record of eighteen years of working across three countries, extensively in seven states of Eastern India, and nearly two dozen major research projects. It is the sole facility in the northeast of India that is dedicated to conservation genetic research and wildlife forensic investigations. The lab has made a substantial contribution to the region's wildlife crime abatement efforts by successfully resolving over 180 wildlife forensic cases.

In this training, broad topics such as genetic sampling techniques, DNA extraction from different types of biological samples, selection of DNA markers and primer designing, PCR and electrophoresis techniques, DNA sequence and microsatellite allelic data generation and analysis, forensic species identification, individual identification and matching, parentage analysis, reconstruction of phylogeny using DNA sequence data, analysis of genetic diversity and population genetic structure etc. will be covered.

The venue for the training will be the Laboratory situated at Aarnayak Research office, HN 12, Kanaklata Path, Survey, Beltola, Guwahati – 781028. 

WGL is now inviting applications from the interested participants. The training has limited 8 number of seats only and is open for Faculty, Researchers and Masters Students in relevant disciplines of biological sciences including Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Zoology, Botany, Wildlife Sciences etc. Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply.

The application process involves filling of an online form in the link given above, followed by shortlisting of applicants. A registration fees of Rs. 25,000 need to be paid only after shortlisting of the applicants for the training.  Meals during the training hours and any travel as part of the training objectives will be covered by the training fees. Applicants sponsored by their host institution need to produce declaration letter on fund availability forwarded by Department/ Laboratory Head or the Institution Head. Director & Head, Wildlife Genetics Division of Aaranyak reserves the right to reject an application, citing no reasons.

The last date of application is 20th March 2026, 5:00 PM (GMT+5:30).
